                                                             Seeking Dance Teaching Artist

 

Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA), located at the historic Flushing Town Hall in Queens, NY is seeking a dance teaching artist who specializes in African dance, especially West African and/or Afro-Latino dance.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced dance educator who is energetic, culturally informed and enjoys working with students of all ages, including seniors.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop age-appropriate dance lessons for K-12 students and seniors.
  • Facilitate one-time workshops, workshop series and/or residencies.
  • Collaborate with FCCA education staff, school administrators, and classroom teachers to determine schedule and planning of program.
  • Support FCCA's education vision, core values, and programs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in dance/education. Master's Degree a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of learning standards (NYC Blueprint, Common Core).
  • Professional experience teaching in the NYC Public Schools.

For over twenty years FCCA Education Program has captivated imaginations, broaden students' arts education experience and provided meaningful connections between classroom subject areas and the arts.  We develop and provide innovative educational programming for students of all ages from children to seniors, throughout Queens and beyond.  Over the past year, we served 10,000 students and seniors through our performances, in-school residencies, art workshops, camps and clinics. FCCA educational programs weave the arts into core subject areas, and introduce elementary, middle and high school students to high quality music, theater, dance and puppetry groups from around the world.

Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA), located at the historic Flushing Town Hall in Queens, NY is seeking a teaching artist familiar with theater arts and drama-in-education practices that can be utilized in the classroom.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced theater educator who is able to develop unique educational residencies that enhance the students' understanding of the class curriculum through theater while simultaneously developing students' performance, writing, and creative arts skills.
