Education
Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts delivers high quality and innovative educational opportunities to thousands of children, while providing a wide range of resources and services that strengthen arts education programs throughout the Borough of Queens.

During the academic year, Flushing Town Hall's performance series for school audiences, Think Outside the Classroom, features a rich mix of professional productions of dance, theater and music, chosen to reflect the cultural diversity of our community and to support classroom learning.

We also offer a wide array of Hands-on Activities that provide children with unique opportunities for self-expression and inquiry. These programs include art and history workshops for school groups, after school programs, and Saturday Mornings for Families featuring interactive art workshops for kids and their parents.

Flushing Council offers a six-week Summer Performing Arts Academy for students in grades 4-12. This program includes study in drama, voice, and dance and culminates with a theatrical production. The enrollment is limited to 40 students.

All of our educational programs and activities support the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for the Arts, and align with Arts, Social Studies, ELA, and ESL NYS Learning Standards.

What's New
Parents as Arts Partners
FCCA is partnering with PS 22 in a Parents as Arts Partners grant provided by the Center for Arts Education. The Parents as Arts Partners program provides an opportunity for schools and cultural organizations to engage parents and/or families in hands-on, interactive arts education activities. Flushing Council's teaching artist, Tina Seligman, is working with parents at PS 22 to design and paint a permanent mural for the school that celebrates its multi-cultural diversity.

Cultural After School Adventures (CASA)
Flushing Council recently received Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) grants to provide cultural programming for students enrolled in after school programs. The funding for the program is provided by the New York City Council, in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department for Youth and Community Development. It gives an opportunity for non-profit organizations and DYCD Out-of-School-Time (OST) providers to offer cultural experiences to our City's youth.
