Boxes: Lost in Circulation

An interactive exhibit that challenges traditional notions of the creation and purchase of art. For one week this November, you are invited to view the creation of new works in our gallery. On completion the creations will be hidden in plain cardboard boxes for display. At the opening event, the audience will encounter only anonymous boxes. The art within each box will be revealed as patrons buy it sight unseen. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Flushing Town Hall.

Two-time Grammy nominee Dafnis Prieto, recipient of a 2011 MacArthur Fellowship (the "genius grant"), transposes elements from his Afro-Cuban musical heritage onto a jazz drum kit, with congas, timbales, and the layered patterns of rumba & son.
