Five Women Artists in New York
Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - Sunday, June 29, 2008
Curated by Ken RatnerOpening Reception: Tuesday, May 6, 2008
Exhibition Dates: May 7 - June 29, 2008
Participating Artists: Ellen Bradshaw, Lisbeth Firmin, Lynn Jadamec, Elinore
Schnurr, Sonya Sklaroff
Adhering to the belief that artists should seek inspiration from their immediate surroundings, these painters have continued the precept established by Robert Henri and the Ashcan Schol. They invest great emotion and beauty in the life of everyday New York City. The exhibition gains in significance when one considers that women street painters have had a difficult time being accepted into the world's notion of who should paint the urban environment. These five women bravely take to the street to formulate their own unique visions of the metropolis.
