Trombonist, composer, arranger Papo Vazquez has been a master of his instrument since he was a kid. His Philadelphian/Puerto Rican/Nuyorican roots infuse his playing with Afro-Caribbean spirit and soul and the far reaching outlook of jazz.

Vazquez was the first to receive a commission to compose new music for the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, a resident band of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He is a seasoned veteran who has played with Hector Lavoe, The Fania All-Stars, Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, and Ray Barretto.

Papo Vazquez Pirates Troubadours "Afro Puerto Rican Jazz Band" is one of the fiercest bands on the planet with twisted variations on traditional themes like Yuba' Jazz, Holande Pirata, Jibaro Waltz, Plena Funk, Mapeye Jazz to help describe his music.

"Trombonist Vazquez has the innate ability of letting his music breathe and speaking eloquently. It turns on the anvil he calls Afro Puerto Rican Jazz, but he blends in several idioms that make up Latin jazz. More, he fleshes the music with swing and bop, letting the whole coalesce into rich orchestral textures. His skill as an arranger also leaves a soloist enough room to make an impact."
