Debby Elkin
Artist
I grew up in Forest Hills and and fondly remember shopping at Alexanders and waiting on line for ice cream at Howard Johnsons. Always intrigued by arts and crafts, I started to create collages as a child. I received a degree in Product Design: Textiles Major from the Fashion Institute of Technology. My work afterwards included designing silkscreen patterns, appliques, and embroidery for clothing for women and primarily children. My collages have been exhibited in a variety of venues: The Alliance of Queens Artists (where I was elected president and curated shows), the National Art League, The Queens Museum, colleges, galleries, restaurants, hospitals and outdoor art fairs. At the Queens Public Library, I taught Collage Workshops for children. For thirty years I worked for Northwell Health in Accounts Payable. Now retired, I continue creating collages and participating in shows. The art of collage and especially those celebrating nostalgia will always be a passion of mine.
