Tiger of Zhao is based on a supernatural story from Pu Song Ling’s 17th century classic collection, “Strange Tales from Liao Studio.”  It's a story of healing injustice and overcoming fear and hatred of the “other.” The set of 40 Chinese shadow figures that are the inspiration for this production were made in 1934, by a well known Chinese teacher and educator and his class of young students at a school in Chengdu, China. These figures are well preserved and CTW has reproduced them for use involving 2 overhead projectors in a technique that they have often utilized in shows over the past 30 years. Production is bi-lingual with an original musical score by Lu Liu, based on traditional bilingual story-telling style and Chinese opera recitatif.

This program has been funded in part by The Jim Henson Foundation.
