Now in its 15th year, Flushing Town Hall’s beloved Asian Foodways Workshop returns for a sizzling summer celebration: BBQ Around Asia! This annual cooking workshop is a beloved tradition that invites participants to explore the rich culinary traditions of Asia through live demonstration, cultural context, and hands-on tasting.
This year, Dr. Hsing-Lih Chou and Dr. Yi-Nian Lee, joined by students from Overseas Chinese University of Taiwan, will guide guests through a flavorful journey across the continent—from the night markets of Taiwan to the tabletop grills of Korea and the aromatic satay stands of Malaysia. Participants will learn the cultural stories behind each dish, watch expert live cooking demonstrations, and enjoy tastings of every featured recipe.
Featured dishes include Grilled Taiwanese Sausage and King Oyster Mushrooms (Taiwan/China), Bulgogi—Korean Marinated Beef BBQ (Korea), and Chicken Satay with Traditional Flavor (Malaysia).

Dr. Hsing-Lih Chou
Dr. Hsing-Lih Chou is a co-presenter of Flushing Town Hall’s Asian Foodways Workshop series. He brings expertise in Asian culinary traditions and cultural education to the program, connecting participants with the histories and stories behind each dish.
Dr. Yi-Nian Lee
Dr. Yi-Nian Lee co-leads the workshop alongside Dr. Chou, drawing on deep knowledge of Asian food culture to guide participants through live demonstrations and tasting experiences.
Students from Overseas Chinese University of Taiwan
