The New York Classical Players (NYCP) invites listeners to Flushing Town Hall to enjoy a dialogue between lyricism and virtuosity in this sweeping program. Andrew Hsu’s Arabesques, written for solo viola and strings, receives its premiere with NYCP’s own violist En-Chi Cheng, illuminating a delicate interplay of motion and stillness. Acclaimed cellist Mark Kosower returns to NYCP to perform Tchaikovsky’s elegant “Variations on a Rococo Theme” and the brooding intensity of “Pezzo capriccioso, Op. 62.” The evening concludes with Wagner’s “Prelude and Liebestod” from Tristan und Isolde, heard in a chamber orchestra version crafted by Yoomi Paick that brings new intimacy to its sweeping drama.
