The New York Kathak Festival Pop-Up! concert is a live Indian classical dance + music experience. Kathak, the dance of the storyteller, traces its origins to ancient India, where dancers used this art form to tell their stories. It lives on as a deep oral tradition and has a rich emphasis on rhythm and improvisation as well. This concert will feature kathak performances that showcase all aspects of the repertoire—from stories told through gesture and subtle expression, as well as dynamic technique, especially the powerful footwork and rapid pirouettes this style is famous for.
