Ullas, Sahbhaajan & Prem!
A Holi dance celebration of Joy, Sharing, & Love
Friday, April 24, 2026
Celebrate Holi with ullas (joy), sahbhaajan (sharing) & prem (love) at our dance concert! We invite students to experience India’s rich folk culture as Abha B. Roy and Srijan Dance Company perform lively dances from throughout India.
Our Holi show begins as two friends travel across India, where they meet their co-traveler, a writer, Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. She tells them about story that is depicted in our dance drama—in the northern state of India called Punjab, our travelers see giddha folk dance performed to welcome spring. The friends then go to the Eastern state of India called Bengal, where they see the local spring festival dances and customs. Lastly, they come to Uttar Pradesh, which lies in-between Punjab and Bengal and they enjoy a classical dance composition as well as a traditional Barsané folk dance.
Abha B. Roy, the artistic director of Srijan Dance Center and master teaching artist, has led the Flushing Town Hall Annual Diwali and Holi programs since their beginnings. A master of Kathak dance, she studied under the guidance of the late great Guru Kundan Lal Gangani and attained professional precision under the training of Pt. Durgalal when she completed her specialization in Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. She represented the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and has taught and performed in South America, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago. She has also performed throughout Europe and venues such as Lincoln Center, Flushing Town Hall, Queens Museum, NYC Cultural Festival, and many more.
Format: 60 minutes, in-person performance at Flushing Town Hall’s theater
Grade Levels: recommended for grades 3-8
Tickets: ALL tickets $10 per person
