Gabrielle M. Hamilton

Gabrielle M. Hamilton believes arts education broadens minds and fosters a more just and equitable world.  As Flushing Town Hall’s Director of Education and Public Programs, Gabrielle works with local, national, and international artists-- researching and developing educational programs for school students, seniors, and families.  A folklorist and educator, she is especially dedicated to uplifting Indigenous and immigrant arts and culture perspectives.  She has launched FTH’s Native American Social, Diwali, Holi, and Jazz Jam partnership programs, and developed educational programs with master teaching artists.  Besides her work at FTH, she has also established a number of grass-roots arts education programs in New York’s immigrant communities, including FolkColombia and the award-winning Pachamama Peruvian Arts.  She served as senior researcher at the National Museum of the American Indian where she worked closely with the Kainai Nation to repatriate their sacred objects. Gabrielle is also the past president of the New York Folklore Society and has taught on the Navajo Nation and Tutuila, Amerika Sāmoa.
