COVID Safety Policy:

ALL INDIVIDUALS: In adherence with Mayor De Blasio’s Covid policy for performance venues, Flushing Town Hall will require all visitors, performers, and staff to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19. A form of identification that matches the proof of vaccine is required, and masks must be worn at all times. For more details on Flushing Town Hall’s general Covid-safety measures and vaccine requirements, please visit: https://www.flushingtownhall.org/covid-safety.

PARTICIPATING MUSICIANS: Flushing Town Hall is pleased to welcome back musicians to perform in-person at our monthly Jazz Jam. Musicians must bring their mask, vaccination card, I.D., in addition to their usual gear (FTH provides piano and drum kit). Noncompliant musicians will be turned away. Musicians can also bring their own microphones, although it is not required as mics will be sanitized after each performance. After you present your vaccination card and I.D. at the front desk, head-up to the theater, and sign-in to perform. Our house band leader, Carol Sudhalter, will call musicians up on stage to perform in the order of the sign-up sheet.  There is no pre-registration at this time. You must keep your mask on, both in the building and while performing, unless you are performing on a wind instrument.  Social distancing will be in place in the theater and on-stage throughout the jam. Thank you for respecting the safety protocols, your fellow artists, and audience.

Monthly Jazz Jams return live at Flushing Town Hall the second Wednesday of every month! Open to professional jazz musicians, graduate students studying jazz, music educators and serious hobbyists, Louis Armstrong Legacy Monthly Jazz Jams invites musicians to perform at Flushing Town Hall. All are welcome, regardless of instrument (vocalists, too!). Our Steinway baby grand and drum kit are available at each Jam. Health and safety protocols will be in place so bring a mask, and feel free to bring your own microphone. House Band and Jam Sessions are led by Carol Sudhalter, with Joe Vincent Tranchina, Scott Neumann and Eric Lemon. Don't play, but love Jazz? Come listen!

Celebrating 10 Years of Local Talent & Great Jazz!

This October, Louis Armstrong Legacy Monthly Jazz Jam is turning ten! To celebrate the occasion, the house band will be joined by members of Queens Jazz OverGround.

The monthly jam began its journey of great jazz in October 2011 as an educational program in collaboration with the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College in order to provide a platform for young jazz musicians to play music together. About three years later, the monthly jam transformed into a program for amateur and professional musicians and public audiences under the lead of Queens Jazz OverGround.

Following the opening by the current house jazz band, Queens Jazz OverGround will play Dinah by Harry Akst, and Joe Young, as featured in the famous Copenhagen film of Louis Armstrong's band from 1933.

The band will feature:

  • Josh Deutsch, trumpet (founding member, Queens Jazz OverGround)
  • Hashem Assadullahi, alto saxophone (current member, Queens Jazz OverGround)
  • Amanda Monaco, guitar (founding member, Queens Jazz OverGround)
  • Eugenia Choe, piano (current member, Queens Jazz OverGround)
  • Richard Mikel, bass
  • Brian Woodruff, drums (founding and current member, Queens Jazz OverGround)

For those unable to attend, virtual audiences from across the globe can still join the livestream and tune in for free via Flushing Town Hall’s Facebook page, and YouTube Channel

This program is supported in part by a grant from The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, Inc.

LOCATION:  Flushing Town Hall Theater
