Mar 4, 2026 - 10:30 AM
WED, MARCH 4, 2026
10:30 AM to 12 PM, with intermission
THE SOUND OF MUSIC, based on the Broadway Musical by the Salzburg Marionette Theatre
The Salzburg Marionette Theatre returns to Flushing Town Hall with their adaptation of The Sound of Music with the full cooperation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Estate. The 60th Anniversary of the film and the full access to the score proved irresistible for Salzburg Marionette Theatre company who were able to do research by simply walking out onto the streets and hills of their Salzburg home. Ten puppeteers will operate up to fourteen puppets simultaneously, moving in and around each other, in the tightest of spaces, with great agility. Students will be amazed by the one hundred puppets used in the show, each one crafted by hand.
The Sound of Music follows the story of Maria, a postulant at Nonnberg Abbey, who is too free-spirited to accept the discipline of the convent and goes to work as a governess for the wealthy, aristocratic navy captain Georg von Trapp—a widower with seven children. Maria wins the children’s hearts; and the Captain, increasingly captivated by Maria, falls in love with her; she returns his affection. But the Trapps’ married life is quickly disrupted by Nazi Germany’s annexation of Austria. But the Captain is a patriot, passionate about the fulfilling life that Austria has always offered its citizens. They manage to escape to Nonnberg Abbey, and from there they cross the mountains on foot to Switzerland . . .
Format: 90 minutes, in-person performance with intermission at Flushing Town Hall’s theater
Grade Levels: recommended for grades 4 and up.
Tickets: ALL tickets $10 per person
