Artist Statement
The photographs that I created for this exhibit display the items needed to repair my electric lamp. I was surprised to learn that you can buy kits to repair a lamp. The restoration also included cleaning and painting the outer body of the lamp. I also discussed my repair project with an electrician.
About The Artist
Marvenia Knight is an African-American visual artist living in Jamaica, New York. Her studio practice is focused on projects that reflect the natural environment and confront social injustice. She studied graphic design at Parsons School of Design, NYC and Empire State College, SUNY. Photography and mixed-media collage are her primary media where constructions focus on evoking responses through shapes,color, and theme are her goals. Recently, Marvenia’s collages appeared in several group shows in Queens, NYC including Emerging from Isolation Notes on the Pandemic (2021), Southeast Queens Artist Alliance, York College Fine Arts Gallery, Process-Project: What Comes Out of Our Sketchbooks, Miller Gallery, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning.
