Vivarta Art's event celebrates the vibrant Indian festival of Navratri, a nine-day homage to Goddess Durga and the divine feminine. This festival is renowned for its dynamic folk dances—garba and dandiya. Garba features participants dancing in a large circle, clapping rhythmically to traditional music, while dandiya involves two concentric circles where dancers strike sticks in patterns to a rhythmic beat.
In keeping with Navratri's spirit of community, this event invites people of all backgrounds to join in. Beginning with free dance lessons, offering an inclusive opportunity for everyone to learn garba and dandiya. The lessons ensure that attendees can actively participate in the evening’s main segment of joyous community dancing.
Midway, attendees can enjoy a performance by Queens-based Vivarta Arts Performing Troupe, showcasing high-energy folk-inspired dances reflecting the vibrancy and artistry of South Asian culture. After this captivating interlude, the floor reopens for all to continue dancing together. This event embodies our mission to celebrate cultural traditions, creating a welcoming space for all community members to connect through music, movement, and shared joy.
