Fridays At Five: Artists Build Community
“Fridays at Five” is a virtual exhibition commemorating the one-year anniversary of Flushing Town Hall’s weekly Artist Zoom Hangs and the community of multidisciplinary artists that have created a supportive network. Prior to the pandemic, Queens-based artists had begun to gather regularly hosted by Flushing Town Hall, initially brought together in celebration of Queens’ historian Jack Eichenbaum’s birthday.
The weekly Artist Zoom Hangs began in March 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. At a time when the world had to quarantine in isolation, these weekly calls provided a place to come together and build community, connections and support. Hangs began with Queens-based artists and now include artists from across the country.
“Fridays at Five” showcases the artists who have regularly taken part in the Artist Zoom Hangs, supporting each other throughout these uncertain times.
